GCMTB 2019 Planning Meeting & AGM
December 9 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Pan Pac games punctuate the end of what has been a huge year for Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club.
The end of the year means the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is almost upon us.
Last year (2018) the new committee (us) inherited all the events that the previous committee had agreed to.
For this forthcoming year (2019) circumstances have left us with a blank canvas.
This is a fantastic opportunity to involve yourself with GCMTB!
So we will have a 2019 planning meeting in the Velodrome Clubhouse at 9.00am then the AGM at 11.00 am with some coffee inbetween .
That way any interested members can join the conversation and have direct input into next year’s club events and direction.
That doesn’t mean just throwing ideas at us, it means putting your hand up to join the committee, having the time, background and motivation to carry things out.
All club members are welcome and can vote at the AGM
Ironically although we have done so many events this year, the most positive steps of the year have been made elsewhere.
Some facts and background
2018 has seen Nerang and Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club host :
The MTBA NatIonal Rounds 3 & 4 in January.
The Commonwealth Games in March.
QLD Enduro series Round 2 in May
Sunshine State Series Round 2 in June
MTBA National Schools Championships in August
Shimano Series Tour Enduro in October
Pan Pac Masters Games in November
These events all take at least a whole weekend on site, not to mention hours of pre-planning, booking and logistics.
The Commonwealth Games also took 2 months from our ” event window”.
Although these ” 3rd party ” events have raised our profile , they have reduced the window opportunity and motivation for our own events.
As a result we’ve only done 1 club event in 2018 ( Ladies Day)
More importantly on a club level , we have installed free beginners coaching, organised and subsided the training of 14 local Level 0 coaches and two Level 1 coaches.
We’ve also created regular structured social rides at Nerang, Old Tambo and Hinze Dam.
QPWS, GCCC and Seqwater are keen to work with us to manage/develop the trail networks in Nerang National Park, Old Tambo and Hinze Dam
Club membership has gone up from 200 to 300.
Moving forward into 2019
The QPWS audit of the MTB trails network will be on the table in the next few weeks. The “master plan ” will follow soon after.
GCMTB will at the heart of what’s about to happen to mountain biking in Nerang National Park .
More broadly Gold Coast City Council are showing great interest in MTB in the area.
We are in an excellent financial position.
The free coaching/development sessions, structured social rides and member discounts have been the driving force behind the increase in membership.
Our club events have suffered as a result of the amount of “3rd Party ” events.
We are proposing a return to club based events , for example 3 or 4 decent sized club run events ( think Nerang Enduro #5 , but XC also ) and some smaller club run events.
We are slowly getting to grips with the new timing system, we’ve gained heaps of experience helping other people’s events. About time we were applying that experience to our own!
Moves have been made in the direction of a new logo and club riding shirts , should have something to show at the meeting.
All in all a very positive outlook for 2019.
