Doug began riding mountain bikes in Scotland back in 2005 while he was a home Dad. Having spent 22 years working as a logger in the forests of Scotland he was intrigued by the rise of the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Centres and became a regular at Kirroughtree.
Since coming to the local area in 2009 Doug has become a regular at Nerang, being very regularly and actively involved in various trail care groups and the Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club. In recent times Doug has worked to lead the development of Mountain Bike Riding in the local region as President of the Gold Coast Mountain Bike Club while continuing to help out in maintaining the trail network throughout the Nerang Mountain Bike Park.
Doug keeps fit through other activities and rides for fun. Although not a particularly competitive rider, he has been a fan of the SEQ Enduro series since it began and has enjoyed a few days out at the events. He managed to stay on his bike long enough in 2016 to win the Series for his age group and be runner up in the State Champs.
In typical British fashion Doug mostly rides a burly all mountain hardtail and prefers going down to up.
Over the years Doug has mentored and led groups and individuals in various timber harvesting operations. More recently, since completing MTBA’s Level 0 Coaches Course and the Level 1 Skills Course, Doug has frequently been involved in coaching the regular GCMTB Skills Developments Sessions, involving improving the riding skills of large groups of beginner riders.
A skilled rider Doug’s honest approach to feedback allows riders to understand quickly what they need to do to improve. With a focus on core riding skills Doug is quickly able to help strengthen the riding abilities of any rider.
