Liz has been riding mountain bikes since 2000. Her boyfriend at the time introduced Liz to the sport, believing that her triathlon background would make her an instant champion mountain biker. Not long after that, Liz ended up ditching the boy but decided wisely to keep his bike.
Liz continued to ride, even quitting her beloved hockey to ride her (his) mountain bike more and more often.
She completed her first mountain bike skills course with MTBSkills, who were so impressed with Liz that offered me a job as an instructor. Trained up with their skills teaching, Liz continued to work as a skills instructor for about 5 years. She also developed and taught the Level 1 Instructor Course. In 2015 Liz started her own skills coaching business, Cycle Tecnic, and has been coaching in Victoria.
Coming from a physical education teaching and sports coaching background, Liz has coached many sports including hockey, cricket and footy. She is a Level 1 MTBA mountain bike skills instructor, a qualified presenter for the Level 0 course and a Level 1 PMBI qualified skills coach.
In her mountain biking life Liz has competed in adventure racing, cross country races, 6, 12, 24 hour enduro and even raced at the Xterra World Championships in Hawaii.
These days Liz prefers her racing to be more social. She has recently started competing in Gravity Enduro events and loves it! Her favourite places to ride are Rotorua and Derby – super fun trails that are not so far away.
Despite now being on the Gold Coast she continues to be involved with a lot of women’s development with her club in Victoria. Her aim is to get more women riding mountain bikes and support women in learning new skills, developing confidence and finding new places to ride. Her fun and relaxed coaching style makes beginners to the sport instantly feel at ease. She also loves teaching kids to ride, especially enjoys seeing them improve so quickly.
