DESCRIPTION OF ILLINBAH
The Illinbah downhill track is considered to be among the best in Australia and offers mountain biking at the most ‘extreme’ level which is both a rider and spectator bonanza! Steep, rocky and forests full of ‘alien’ tree roots with jumps, berms and drops over a distance of 2km with a vertical drop of 500m keeps riders focused at all times but still brings many undone with spectacular crashes and riding feats!
This is a private trail open to club members and visitors on schedule GCMTBC days only. It is rated advanced and respected by all in the downhill mountain bike scene. It is not to be taken lightly! Regardless of rider ability, ensure that that a survey ride is done beforepinning it down to familiarise yourself with the trail, checking for hazards on the track e.g. fallen branches, fences etc.
The QLD State Downhill Champsionships were held at Illinbah in 2009 and 2014.

Illinbah downhill begins with flowing single trail corners high above the valley with spectacular views to the ocean in the north and Lamington Plateau to the south. The trail drops steeply through open switchbacks, off camber turns and high speed berms to ‘Doppo’s Step-down’ and through the new high speed and swooping ‘180 degree Benny’s Berm’. The track then changes dramatically dropping into the dark rock and alien root infested ‘NSDynamics.com.au’ forest. ‘This is what Illinbah is famous for – it separates the concrete drinkers from the latte sippers and challenges even the best riders’! The track then blasts back into the sunshine and throws you down ‘Remy’s – Devils Chute’ onto Doc’s ‘Highway to Hell’ Flyover and into the high speed open grass section which incorporates ‘The Ski Jump’ and down to ‘Mat’s Boota’ just to keep your attention focused. Once you have your breath back the rocks start again as you enter the bottom forest and navigate your way through high speed technical sections incorporating off camber turns, drops and berms. The trail then gives you the choice of taking on Sarge’s-‘Drop of Doom’ or choosing ‘Frasers Run’ (B Line) for reasons of sanity!! A couple of drifty corners and berms punch you out into the open grass lands and over the ‘FTR World Cup’ bridge, through a high speed berm and teeth rattling – rough as guts steep run onto ‘The Cows Lookout’ and down to the finish line. The downhill track is approximately 2075 metres in length with a vertical descent of approximately 500 metres and will test the best of riders!
NOTE: The downhill track used for previous State and National level events has undergone a significant makeover in 2014 however; the general track line remains unchanged! For reasons of safety and emergency access, the Pro Line (known as A Line) WILL NOT be used. The A Line now becomes the track which incorporates Drop of Doom which connects to a B Line.
